US is not Ready to Attack Iran Attacks

(MENAFN) The United States is currently not prepared to launch military strikes against Iran, as additional air defense deployments are required in the Middle East to guard against possible retaliation, according to reports citing US officials.

In recent weeks, Washington has sent what President Donald Trump described as a “massive and beautiful armada” to the region, led by the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, in an effort to pressure Tehran into agreeing to a new nuclear deal.

Despite this buildup, American strikes on Iran “aren’t imminent,” with officials emphasizing the need to protect Israel, US forces, and regional partners. The Pentagon is reportedly moving extra THAAD and Patriot missile defense systems to bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other strategic locations.

The heightened tensions follow US and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites last June, which prompted Iran to retaliate by attacking Israel and striking the al-Udeid US air base in Qatar. Damage at the US facility was limited, as Tehran provided advance warning of the assault.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that any US military action could have widespread consequences across the Middle East, stating, “they should know that if they start a war this time, it will be a regional war.”

Trump later downplayed Khamenei’s warning but indicated that diplomacy remains possible, saying, “Of course he is going to say that… Hopefully we’ll make a deal. If we don’t make a deal, then we’ll find out whether or not he was right.”

Separately, Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin that progress is being made toward potential negotiations with the US.
